Project Spotlight: Donna’s Garage Electrical Upgrade

Expert Wire recently had the privilege of serving Ms. Donna at her home in Seaford [Blades], Delaware. Donna has been a loyal customer for nearly two decades, relying on Expert Wire for projects large and small over the past 19 years.

Back in 2017, Donna trusted Expert Wire to replace her home’s main electrical service. While that upgrade gave her peace of mind, the garage sub panel—original to the home and dating back to the 1960s—remained untouched. Over the years, Donna continued to make other upgrades to her home, but the garage electrical system was always “the one thing left undone.” Recently, she decided it was finally time to take care of it after admitting she no longer felt safe plugging things in.

During the evaluation, the service team found four circuits in the garage—two for general receptacles, one for the garage door openers, and one for lighting. The devices were decades old, and several open splices needed repair.

Donna chose to divide the work into two phases:

Phase 1 – Garage Safety & Reliability

Replaced aging receptacles

Installed GFCI receptacles for added protection

Ran a dedicated line for the garage door openers

Repaired open junctions

Phase 2 – Sub Panel Upgrade & Lighting

Replaced the outdated 100-amp Federal Pacific sub panel from the 1960s with a modern Square D QO electrical panel upgrade

Upgraded the main grounding system for safety and reliability

Installed bright, energy-efficient LED lighting

What stood out most to Donna was the consistency of service over the years. She noted that whether it was the service technician who listened to her concerns and explained the plan, or the install crew who carried the project through to completion, she received the same high level of care and professionalism at every stage.
